Classroom & Media Literacy
The section Classroom explores the correlation of educational policies and pedagogic concerns with the task of developing skills to deploy digital media effectively and thoughtfully while respecting the impact of these media on society. This section provides theoretical discussions, practical suggestions and examples of specific initiatives in the on- and offline world.
Media cultures have a fundamental impact on educational environments. They affect the way information is retrieved and processed, change concepts of knowledge and education and require new competencies. However, the educational implications of new cultural techniques and practices are hardly discussed from a media studies perspective.
The issue 43 of Dichtung Digital – produced by the workgroup „Media Culture and Education“ within the Society for Media Studies – undertakes such a discussion by exploring the positions and concepts in media studies in relation to the ongoing discussion in media pedagogy.
The contributions offer theoretical arguments and case studies on topics such as the media literacy, the generation and legitimation of knowledge in digital media, and the ideology and economics of education within the framework of digital technology.
